Feng-Shui is a secular belief resulting from the dialogue with the energies of the living, their influence and their benefits. As a reminder that nature is not an obsolete thing but an actual concern more than ever, the Ji Jian Wu collection revisits five traditional amulets to give them a contemporary face and transmit ancestral values of respect to younger generations.
While Chinese culture remains a fundamental root of Singapore’s modernity, its traditional tenets tend to lose influence. As an ancient art born from observing nature and applied to the built environment, Feng-Shui struggles to resist the generational enthusiasm for modern technologies and their promises of immediate comfort.
From philosophy to belief, the Chinese language and its double meanings have given shape to numerous artefacts, a mythological bestiary reminding the need to stay in harmony with the living. The Ji Jian Wu collection revisits its emblematic figures, making their symbolism more suitable for dialoguing with contemporary interiors.
The design of these amulets thus contributes to domestic harmony, through their appearance and symbols. Each object has its own virtue: Qi Lin, a chimaera composed of different animals, from deer to lion including fish, promises longevity, fertility and prosperity; Pi Xiu, a fierce and powerful winged lion, is the guardian of wealth; Jin Chan, the golden three-legged toad, vector of fortune; Ma, the horse that guarantees immediate success; and finally Hu Lu, the calabash purifying evil and bringing health and longevity.
This collection, made in Taiwan in limited quantity, is made of handcrafted porcelain with fine gold gilding.
